The Nigerian actress Christabel Egbenya says that she plans to the sue a tabloid newspaper over a story it published in one of its weekend editions.
The actress accused The Saturday Sun, the weekend version of the popular Sun newspaper of publishing a defamatory article which caused her a lot of distress.
The actress issued the statement on her social media handle.
She wrote: “It is most unfortunate that the management of any news media would make such publication without taking prior steps to verify the truth of it,” she posted on Instagram.
“I am speaking with my lawyers already. They will in due course get in touch with the management of Sun Newspapers to exact the appropriate remedy and clear my hard-earned reputation.
“I appeal to all my fans to stay calm as I thank them for always standing by me.”
The Sun is owned by the former governor of Abia state, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu who is presently serving a jail term for corruption.
