South Africa finalises format for BRICS summit

President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed South Africa’s readiness to host the historic 15th Summit of BRICS nations – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It will be the first BRICS Summit to be hosted in person since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent global restrictions.

President Ramaphosa has in recent months and weeks held a number of consultations on the hosting of the Summit. The President’s most recent consultation in this regard took place last night, Tuesday, 18 July 2023, at the BRICS Political Party Dialogue in Gauteng.

The Summit will be attended by the leaders of Brazil, India, China and South Africa.

By mutual agreement, President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation will not attend the Summit but the Russian Federation will be represented by Foreign Minister, Mr Sergey Lavrov.

In due course, a comprehensive statement on the substantive issues to be covered at the Summit and other related foreign policy matters will be issued.

President Ramaphosa is confident that the Summit will be a success and calls on the nation to extend the necessary hospitality to the many delegates who will arrive from various parts of the continent and the globe.

EFCC nabs suspected Internet fraudsters in Enugu

Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 arrested 28 suspected internet fraudsters in a sting operation in Enugu.

The suspects are: Godwin Ogbonna, Bright Chidozie, Chukwuebuka Ugwu, Ifesi Isaac, Collins Nnachi, Micheal Nnamdi, Ikechukwu Derrick Anya, Nneji Onyebuchi, Nwali Chukwujekwu Chukwudi, Kenechukwu Barry, Ibe Chisom, and Godwin Okwuchi Promise

Others include Chijioke Eze Henry, Chinwetalu Eze Harrison, Somadina James, Ejike Ezeoha, Seth Onodika, Akuh Stanley, Emmanuel Opara, Nonso Egwu Martin, Ugochukwu Kingsley Ibeh, Ikenna Okonkwo, Felix Nwaeze, Daniel John, Somtochukwu Zadok, Ugochukwu Amoke and Chukwudi Charles.

Items recovered from them include nine exotic cars, 44 mobile phones, seven personal computers and one international passport.

The suspects have made useful statements and will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.

EFCC arrests suspected Internet fraudsters in Port Hacourt

Operatives of the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested 38 suspected internet fraudsters. They were arrested on August 21, 2023 in a sting operation at Ogbogoro and Aluu Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The suspects are: Marvelous Obuah, John Don Precious, Batholomen Ifeanyi, Onyenaturuchi Akuma Chima, Maxwell Goodluck, Joseph Emmanuel, Godwin Emmanuel, Kelechi Ukaegbu, Kelly Taribo Bruce, David Onyedikachi Eluwa, Chukwu Anokwute, Christian Othuke, John Iheme, Obenushe Blessed, Eruchi Oshu Godswill, Emmanuel Goodluck, Nnaemaeka Chinedu and Prosper Emmanuel.

Others include Daniel Ogumba, Ikem Onyeka, Delight Godwin, Obed Martins, Chidebere Cyril, Augustine Obayi, Akpodiete Gift Oghenekevwe, Ikposi Kamte, Chidozie Augustine Iwuchukwu, Luscious Jack, Exekiel George Richard, John Godwin, Emmanuel John, Ernest Naagban, Dominic Ikem, Chimzi Wobo Upchurch, Michael Chikwadi, Omiete Ibama and Leonard Sowu Kaiser Jackreece.

Items recovered from them include different brands of phones and laptops, a Lexus EX 350, Lexus 350, three Toyota Corolla, two Toyota Camry, a Mercedes Benz GLK and the N253, 700.00 cash

They will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.

Court freezes Orjiakor’s accounts

Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos, has granted an order freezing the bank accounts and assets of the Co-Founder and former Chairman, Seplat Energy, Dr. Ambrosie Bryant Chkwueloka (ABC) Orjiakor over alleged indebted to Access Bank Plc.

The court also restrained Orjiakor his agents, servants and/or privies or any other person or group of persons whatsoever under his authority or any other authority from operating, withdrawing from or otherwise tampering and/or dealing with his funds in any bank and/or financial institution within Nigeria, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for the appointment of a Special Manager filed along herein.

The order of the court was sequel upon a Motion Ex Parte dated July 12, 2023 filed by Access Bank in charge number: FHC/L/BK/08/2023.

Also listed as respondents in the petition were Seplat Energy Plc, Helko Nigeria Limited, Neymeth International, Pharmaceuticals Plc, Salvic Petroleum Resources Limited, Zebbra Energy Limited.

Others are ORDREC Group Limited,, Helko Marine Services Limited. Pondents 8. Berwick Nigeria Limited, Abbeycourt Petroleum Company Limited, Abbeycourt Energy Services Limited, Abbeycourt Company Limited and Pursley Resources Limited

The court order read: “That an Interim Order is hereby ordered restraining the debtor (Dr. Ambrosie Bryant Chukwueloka Orjiakor), his agents, servants and/or privies or any other person or group of persons whatsoever under his authority or any other authority (howsoever derived or sourced) from operating, withdrawing from or otherwise tampering and/or dealing with his funds in any bank and/or financial institution within Nigeria pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for the appointment of a Special Manager filed along herein.

“That a consequential order is hereby made:. directing and/or compelling all banks/financial institutions harbouring the debtor’s. (Dr. Ambrosie Bryant Chukwueloka Orjiako) account(s) to depose to oath the sums standing to the credit of the debtor (Dr.Ambosie Bryant Chukwueloka Orjiakor) in their custody with seven days from being served with a copy of the order of court.

“That Interim Order is hereby made restraining the respondents from dealing with shares, investments, bonds, assets, funds howsoever described belonging to the Debtor (whether held by him directly or via proxy) in their custody and/or in custody of any bank/financial institution pending the hearing and final determination of the Motion on Notice for the appointment of a Special Manager filed along herein.

“That a consequential order is hereby made directing and/or compelling respondents harbouring the debtor’s (Dr. Ambrosie Bryant Chukwueloka Orjiakor) shares, assets, bonds, funds howsoever described, whether held directly by the said Debtor or via proxy, to depose on Oath the shares, assets, investments, sums etc,’ standing to the credit of the Debtor (Dr. Ambrosie Bryant Chukwueloka Orjiakor) in their custody within 7 (seven) days from being served with a copy of the order of the court.

“That an Interim order is hereby made restraining the debtor (Dr. Ambrosie Bryant Chukwueloka Orjiakor), his agents, Servants and/or privies from interfering with, tampering, removing from jurisdiction of this honourable court his funds, investments, bonds, shares, pecuniary and other beneficial interests in all banks, financial institution and/or company in Nigeria principally in Shebah Exploration and Production Company Limited, Allenne Limited and in the Respondents pending the hearing and final determination of the Motion on Notice for the appointment of a Special Manager filed along herein.”

It stated further: “That an order is hereby made authorising the creditor herein to take over and preserve all the assets of the debtor, whether same may be found, specifically the following properties belonging to the debtor be it directly or via proxy: No. 25A, Lugard Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos, No. 6, Agodogba Avenue, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.

No. 10C, Lugard Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos, No. 11, Oba Adeyinka Oyekan Street, Ikoyi, Lagos, No. 175A, Moshood Olugbani Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, 1034B, Ologun Agbaje Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, Plot 144; lyeowuna Drive (Off Peter Odili Road), Port Harcourt, No. 81, Woji Road, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt, and the debtor’s country mansion in Uli, Thiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria.

“That an order is hereby made authorising the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) or any other law enforcement agencies to assist the bailiffs of this honourable court in the execution of the orders of this honourable court made herein. And any other properties owned by the debtor, wherever same is found or situate pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice filed in the suit."

Brazil’s president tp visit Angola on Friday

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is expected in Angola on Friday (25th) for a two-day visit aimed to boost bilateral cooperation and the historical links between the two countries.

This was confirmed by Brazil Agency “ Agência Brasil”, adding that Lula da Silva will have a private meeting and an extended one with his counterpart João Lourenço, on the first day of the visit in Luanda.

The source states that the Brazilian Head of State will also participate in seminar in National Assembly where he will talk about the project in the Cunene Valley.

The agenda also includes participation in a business event expected to gather

The two countries will also sign memorandums in the fields of agriculture, data processing, health and education are planned.

President Lula da Silva arrives in Luanda from Johannesburg, South Africa, where he attends the 15th Summit of the BRICS on 22-24 August.

BRICS is a bloc of countries with emerging economies that comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

After Luanda, according to the source, Lula da Silva will travel to Príncipe, São Tomé and Príncipe, to participate in the 14th Conference of Heads of State of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).

At the Conference, São Tomé and Príncipe will succeed Angola in the rotating presidency of the organisation, for a two-year term.

Created on July 17, 1996, the CPLP comprises Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor as members.

Cooperation between Angola and Brazil began to take shape on June 11, 1980, with the signing of the Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement.

Under this agreement, the two countries developed bilateral cooperation in the areas of health, culture, public administration, professional training, education, environment, sports, statistics and agriculture.

Brazil was the first country in the world to recognise Angola’s independence, proclaimed on November 11, 1975, by then President António Agostinho Neto.
